6 Questions for Our 6th Anniversary

Today is our 6th anniversary—thank you for being on the journey with us!

To honor the occasion, we’re sharing six questions people ask us with some regularity.

Maybe you’ve always wondered too?

1. What does "Weiswood" mean?

Let’s be honest. My last name, Weisgrau, is hard to pronounce. (For the record, it rhymes with NICE-how.)

My husband, Robert Elwood, fared better in the last name department. When the company was born, we were working together, so Weiswood was an easy-to-say blend.

Over time, the nature of the business changed, and a different Robert came on board, but the name stuck.

Here’s how we like to think of it today.

2. What services do you currently offer?

  • Writing and design—most often cases for support, case prospectuses, and messaging platforms

  • Assessment and planning for development and campaign communications

  • Executive advising to senior leaders in advancement and marketing/communications

3. So you’re fundraising consultants, right?

No, we’re specialists in fundraising communications

But, we come from the fundraising world, so we understand the unique needs and challenges that development and advancement shops face when it comes to communicating clearly and persuasively about organizational priorities, vision, and impact.

We also work closely with fundraising consultants like our long-time partner Lipton Strategies, with whom we are currently in our 6th client collaboration. (There's that lucky number again!)

4. OK, so you're a marketing agency then.

That’s not a question. Also, no.

Our design work is done by trusted creative partners that we thoughtfully match to each project based on style, budget, and scope of work.

5. What are some of the organizations you have worked with?

A few of our recent clients include:

  • Bates College

  • Deep South Today

  • Los Angeles Jewish Health

  • Rhode Island School of Design

  • University of Pennsylvania – Penn Libraries

You can view the full list on our homepage.

6. Where are you based?

Emily lives in Truro, MA (on Cape Cod), and Robert lives in Philadelphia.

But geography isn’t an issue for us.

We’ve worked with organizations as far away as Japan and always enjoy visiting clients on-site whenever possible. Zoom takes care of the rest!
